A friend shared this story with me, and I think its a very important story to tell.

Precious is the "ultimate" success story!

Precious, formerly known as Lilly, has been through a lot in her lifetime. Used as a breeding machine she was forced to have litter after litter, until cancerous growths on her small body caused her "owner" to throw her out on the street. This loving dog did not deserve the torture she suffered at the hands of the "swine" her owned her before she was rescued.
It was thought that Precious was a Chinese Crested due to her raw hairless skin. After some TLC from her new parents, her lovely coat was revealed and it was realized she was in fact a Yorkshire Terrier.
The first visit to the vet revealed some of the problems and blood was taken to find the rest. Dislocated hip, broken tail, tumors, bad teeth, some skin disease, and that was just the obvious things. Initial treatment was recommended and they started the long job of rehabilitation. Soon they knew that she had an under active thyroid and needed treatment straight away. Operations were scheduled for the tumors and the hip.
The vet operated to remove the mammary tumors, give her a hysterectomy, and repair the broken hip. Her hip however was beyond repair it as so badly damaged. She will walk with a limp. The vet also discovered severe jaw and gum deterioration and had to remove a lot of her jaw, including bone and muscle, as well as remove 14 decayed teeth.
Despite her healing well, her broken tail and dislocated right hip will bring her pain for the rest of her life, her owners now have to check her tail on a very regular basis to make sure she has a good blood supply there. If it loses circulation then the vet will have to amputate, the break is about maybe one and a half inches from her body. Her dislocated hip is a worry, because it's been dislocated for quite a while it cannot be put right, consequently she walks with quite a limp; her right leg has a possibility of amputation too.
She is absolutely terrified of dark spaces, such as her owner's broom closet. She was obviously kept in dark deplorable conditions and does not want to re-live that nightmare.
Despite all that has happened to this poor girl, she is a very happy girl now that she has a family who loves her and cares deeply for her. She is house trained and very well-bahaved, with a truly sparkling personality that shows with everyone she meets.
